Michael A. Garman grew up in Centreville Virginia, and began composing at the age of 15. He attended
the University of North Texas where he studied Music Composition, were he wrote
music for Brian Bowman's Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble, music for electronics, jazz combos, string orchestras, instrumental
choirs, and unusual pairings of instruments in chamber music. His piece Hold Fast
was performed at the ITEA South Regional Conference in Corpus Christi in March of 2009, as well as the 2010 ITEA conference
in Tucson AZ. He graduated in May of 2010, and currently attends the University of Redlands in California, and is pursuing
a Masters degree in Composition, where he is a teaching assistant. Here he founded the Redlands New Music Ensemble, which
is dedicated to performing recent compositions of up and coming composers around the country. His composition
teachers include Anthony Suter, Cindy McTee, Andrew May, Joseph Klein, Paul Thomas, and Da Jeong Choi. He has studied clarinet
with Deborah Fabian and Kathryn Nevin.
